Go get beat up by BARRA HEAD

Free beer (for the dumb)! Oh yeah, time for another release party. Well, why not go out to Loppen for some free beer and free entrance - and President Fetch as opening act. Met up with Lars and had some indian food at Kashmir before we went out to meet Lars! It turned out to be an okay evening with a lot of different music. Five bands openend with each 10 min sets. Shelby Wolf was the most interesting. Southern Rock'ish highly inspired by Clutch. The were formerly known as The Bondage Corporation. I got their demo some time ago at the Play/Rec x-mas show at Musikcafeen and nice to see them live. The Presidents made a good performance with one 10 min long medley - nice way to use the short set. So in all a very nice evening and cool to meet such different people as Lasse, Jon A and Søren. And btw, as usual we didn't get in time to catch the free beers ... Barra Head Play/Rec Shelby Wolf

EARTHLING SOCIETY - Tears of Andromeda

Last year at the Roadburn Festival I saw Earthling Society high on Northern Light - and way, that was a breathtakin' experience. After the show I bought this record - and completely forgot about it. Now and then I stumpled over it going through my records - still sealed in plastic!! And I always thought: "No, wait a little, you need to give it special attention". Stupid me! When is that gonna be? Well, today I unwrapped it and it was not a special occasion and I didn't give it special attention at first. But then after 37 seconds or something, I stoppen doing what I did and thought - WOW!

It's a very fine piece of music and it didn't deserve to stay on the shelve for so long! But then again, hey, maybe it was ment to be so ...

S.T. Mikael - "Mind of Fire"

After 11 years absence swedish psyche-head S.T. Mikael suddenly reappear on Earth. This record is a collaboration with Dungen’s Reine Fiske and Fredrik Björling. There'a apparantly always something boiling in the pot from those dudes of Dungen. The album is out on Subliminal Sounds (home of Dungen, Life on Earth! as well) and their description of the music goes like:

"... a fascinating voyage that is so mind twisting, soul swirling, upper psychedelic that your third eye takes you on a joyride through an altered state! This album makes your brain start thinking in those pebble splash pond mind circular expanding waveforms that people on this vibe await the returning ship their roots sent out to bring back the password to tomorrow."

Well, well, well - pretty well said and what a vocabulary ...

Three records spinning ...

Wooden Shjips: "S/T"

Really cool album from this San Francisco quartet. It's some psyched-out stuff with great bassplay and pretty Morrison inspired vocals. >> STREAMED ALBUM >>

Gentlemans Pistols: "S/T"
Straight ahead 1970's rock with a punky attitude. Mostly up-tempo rockers with a great garage feel.

Sun Dial: "Return Journey"
Rerelease of this great record. More space rocking, but with great songwriting and killer guitar from Ramon.

CONTROL again ...

I finally got to see the movie Control about Ian Curtis and Joy Division. Great movie, especially the BW shooting worked fine. It gave everyting the right atmophere of despair and depression. I also think that Sam Riley made a good performance although he's a bit too good looking and didn't seem as psychotic as Ian Curtis looks in the recordings I've seen of Joy Division.

Joy Division was the band that meant most to me as a teenager. I bought Unknown Pleasures back in the beginning of 1980 and instantly felt that Ian speaked on my behalf. Ironically he died maybe a month later or so! I bought all their records and a few, at that time very expensive, bootlegs. And I've listened to that band ever since. It's therefore also kind of funny, to see how the teens of today also worship Joy Division.

Never saw the live - don't even think they ever played Denmark. But in 81 New Order was gonna play at legendary Saltlageret. Wow, I was gonna go. Didn't have money for the ticket, but the opening band called Tee Vee Pop let me in through the backstage entrance. But what a disappointment! The music was shit, the band had their backs to the audience and after 40 minutes they left and didn't come back for an encore. Well, maybe today seeing that concert again would make more sence.

Anyway, the movie is a must see for any serious music lover.

A Desert Moment ...

While I was listening to Unida's unreleased album "The Great Divide", the mailman knocked on the door. He came with a packet of records I had ordered. Great stuff like: Middian and Wooden Shjips. But what was funny, is, that while listening to this great unreleased desert stuff and opening the packet, I realised I had ordered Sabbia, the art-videoproject by Kate McCabe with music by Brant Bjork. And more to this there was the "Disco Marching Kraft EP" by Earthlings? and "Songs from the Ancient Age" by Spindrift. Wow, I look so much forward to all this stuff while I paint a room in my apartment. The video have to wait for later ...

Spindrift is a brand new relationship to me. Stumpled over them by accident - but what a nice one. Although not a desert rock band in the traditional way, they also worship the desert. Spindrift is the brainchild of Kirpatrick Thomas. First album is "Songs from the Ancient Age" and the second is called "The Legend of God's Gun" and features current and former members of Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Warlocks, and other Los Angeles psychedelic veterans. "The Legend of God's Gun" is also a rock-n-roll-spaghetti-style-western/ glorified music video feature film made by Mike Bruce. This is still unreleased, but you can watch the trailer.

About Sabbia, LA Film Forum wrote: "Sabbia is a desert trip inspired by the music of Brant Bjork and visualized by Kate McCabe. Evoking the immeasurable desert landscape and old ghosts of a dusty past, the film beautifully weaves together a tapestry of perfect moments and a raw rock-n-roll way of life. As a form of psychedelic documentary, the film explores the musical wilderness of a weird and sexy Southern California wasteland. Sabbia presents the landscape’s vast sense of space and time and like a mirage, reveals the magic of desert music, art, and soul."

PJ Harvey is the Queen of Rock ...

... at least to me she is. I just love that woman more than any other woman in rock. The news is - if you didn't know - that she and John Parish will record another album in 2008. The first was mighty fine and the concerts held and recorded was nice. Now I just hope for another collaboration with Josh Homme - well, I wish! Anyway, this is just an oppertunity to post a video with the female cameleon ...

I guess Fabchannels.com is the coolest place for full broadcasted concerts in high quality - correct me if I'm wrong ...?

Three records spinning again 'n' again ...

Tokyo Sex Destruction: "5th Avenue South"

I picked this one up at a record fair as a promo for only 1,5 euro. Didn't really have a clue about the band, but I liked the cover. Now it's almost permanently placed next the CD player. Great album and great band from Spain. Cool if you dig garage rock in the MC5 meets The Hives way. Actually much more varied than Hives and with some surprisingly cool songwriting.

Blood Meridian: "Liquidate Paris"
I just love The Black Mountain Army and everything that comes off from their hands. The new Black Mountain is great, but thsi one is actually spinning more than "In the Future". It's so groovy and so laid back. It's psychedelic country rock and the songs are soft as bubblegum and yet with an sharp edge.

Atomic Workers: "Wall of Water Behind Me"
This is a trip to somewhere beyong your mind. This is the wildest dopeness. It's from the hands of former members of Sun Dial and That's All Folks. I still keep getting surprised about this record. It's a constant puzzle to my ears and mind. This is the stuff if you dig anything related to the term psyche ..

The Royal Highness calls it quit

Then there is no more The Royal Highness. Too bad as Lasse Jonsson had just resently joined them and I had expected a lot from his side. Anyway, they were a quite cool band playing a mix of relaxed stoner-rock and Soundgarden - especially the vocal were so much Chris Cornell'ish.

The last songs they recorded can be downloaded from this location: Ce N'est Pas Un Album

The muscians will keep on rocking in other constellations. Lasse is of course still heading The Hors D'oeuvres and they will record their second album soon. And if you like them, they will gig with swedish Deville at Gimle on feb. 9th.

Thomas Broge Starck will continue with some kind of semi-acoustic noise rock called Saint Augustine and singer and drummer Dennis Kasten and Mads Valther will do some fock/country stuff.

Sgt. Sunshine rides again ...

Last friday we went over to Bodoni in Malmö, Sweden to watch Abramis Brama and Sgt. Sunshine. We met up at Scott's home - Bongz, Jens, Magnus and I. Went by car and because Scott and Magnus was going to meet Tobias, he dropped us off at Bodoni at 8. Okay, there we were, it was freezing cold, so we had a piss and a beer and a joint and went in as the very first people. Jens found out that they had strong beer as kvällens öl for only 49 swedish crownes - what a bargain! To make a long story short. Sgt. Sunshine opened and it was the old line-up. Great - almost Kyuss - show. I really loved it - especially the bass play. We had the second joint just before Sgt. Sunshine and had lots of beers all night. Abramis Brama were quite good, but my memory of them is pretty blurred. At 2 in the morning Bongz told me it was time to catch the train and go home. Thanks for that because I was so drunk I could hardly walk. Finally home in Copenhagen I left the station and realised I had forgot my beanie - damned. It was so fucking cold and windy that night. But worse - when I came home I found out that I had lost my keys. Shit, shit, shit - they were nowhere. Drunk as hell I looked everywhere but only found swedish coins in all my pockets. After thet I could only try and call my doughter - but she didn't reply. I then walked to her home - 10 min away - and rang the doorbell - no reply. I was lost - completely lost in the coldest night this winther so far. I looked for my cigarettes and suddenly realised that my keys were in the pocked of my hoodie inside my jacket!! God damn, how stupid can you get. Well, after almost an hour of stupidity I finally got home. And when I took of my hoodie - I found my beanie in the hood ... Well, always fun to drink strong beer!
