Serena Maneesh - New Old New Stuff

Emil is back! It's been a while, but there's some new old stuff released. Old songs in new mixes and stuff. Pretty porno and trancy. A new-new limited 7" vinyl EP with other remixes will be out medio november on Bad Afro and the band is recording a new-new-new full length album at the moment.

Indie wanking The Cape May

I usually hate indie-"rock". Usually call it indie-wank. And indie is usually some wimpy wining shit. I hate Thom Yorke more than any other weak wanker. A grown man acting like a little girl. Anyway, the term indie is completely senseless nowadays. I mean, what kind of alternative music is indie today - well, by any means not Radiohead! Now my problem is, that I really dig some of the more indie-like kind of neo-psychedelic music that comes out these days. The Cape May is one of those bands. This is for sure pretty fucking indie, but it hits me somewhere right in my heart. Hmmmm ... fucking wankers, but pretty fucking great wanking!

Stupidest band name in Brooklyn

"Probably the stupidest band name in a borough that has a band called Cheeseburger. Oh well, if you give yourself to Weird Owl, they might take you to the stoned moonpeaks of Acid Mother's Temple and Hawkwind or the acid-touched blur of 13th Floor Elevators or even, say, "Pictures of Matchstick Men" if you can spare the time and good vibes. A rewarding, spacey comedown for people who think Comets On Fire is too caustic or the Gris Gris ain't caustic enough."

Support Stengade 30

The cool venue Stengade 30 is having serious financial problems. They might have to close down. That would be a disaster since Lades is also having problems payin the rent downtown near Strøget in Copenhagen. Maybe Cph will loose two venues for the alternative rock! Damned country - the danes sucks for mainstream stadium rock and no good danish pop.

Portland Bridges

I was really fascinated by the brides in Portland as we ran a tour by the river. Two rounds of about 4 km and underwent most of the bridges, crossed two of the on each round and therefore saw them from many angles. I was therfore pleased to find this site specialised in photos of them nice bridges. Take a trip here >>

The Hors d'Oeuvres - Yeast

Reviewing The Hors d'Oeuvres demo from last year in LowCut #44 I wrote that is was a demo forewarning a great record that I really looked forward to. Well, now it’s here – and it’s damn brilliant! For those ignorants not aware, The Hors d'Oeuvres is probably the best fucking desert/stoner band in Denmark. And this release only adds to my fave for these guys. Absolutely best thing about this new album is the heavy psychedelic vibe all over trying to melt your speakers as it floats out into the room and warms your soul. The song structure is as usual complex in the most simple and accessible way and makes me once again wonder if front man Lasse actually fell in the pot of magic tea as a child? No matter what, he’s backed by a damn tight rhythm section made up by bassist Steffen and drummer Kurt. Adding to the psyche-fun is also Justin Schoening doing space-guitar and freaky organ and Lars Trier playing clarinet on the title track “Yeast”. I love the shift in a more psyched out direction without loosing the heaviness and if I’m not wrong there are even strong elements of Sgt. Pepper on closing song “The Leak”? Eric C. Harrison - Artist of Grief

I'm making a flyer for the Grief concert at Loppen later this year booked by mighty Nils of Doomed Denmark. But it's rather difficult because Eric C. Harrison is such a great artist and Nils want's me to use some of his drawings. I have just finished one - and its pure cut and paste with some letters. Anyway, therefore I wanna make you aware of this great artist - and also the band!

Gennifer Moss - 'Earth Friend Gen'

Hmmmmm, the Danish online newspaper Ekstra Bladet had an article about this crazy freeky woman riding around on roller skates naked and stuff. Funny thing though is, that this was about her riding around naked in Portland, Oregon. It also stated that the police just told her to put on some clothes and all she did was to put on a thong - that was it!? Really - I was there just a few weeks ago man! The city also allows people to have public sex (well, not true!) and to ride a bike naked acording to Ekstra Bladet. Well, I thought that we - the Scandinavians - were free minded. I stand corrected!

"That is power. EODM have a new album coming out October 28 through Downtown Music called Heart On and we have an exclusive visual look into the making of the record, a series of four in-the-studio clips that have a lot of new song snippets and pontification on the debauchery of Los Angeles from main man Jesse Hughes."

Blood Ceremony - Hippie Horror ...!?!

"We're anti-war, but pro-horror. Standing before the crimson altar, our minds melted as we gazed into the cosmic eye. Now we slay the stages of the universe with heavy riffs, paranoia-inducing trills and '70s fills."

Okay, cool freaks. The music is a strange mix of Pentagram and Jethro Tull - doom'ish kind of hippie acid rock. You have to give it a listen!

Heatfarm @ The Rock

This saturday Heatfarm played at The Rock supporting Riffelsyndikatet. We were there - as usual - we the old friends. Me and my girlfriend accidentally ended up at Floss before the show and there the old fuckers were! Nice, nice, nice - if the world is going down, Floss will survive. That place never ever changes. Mads made a pretty strange stage appearance letting people who bought a record almost fuck his head up. I filmed the show with my new Flip camcorder and it turned out quite good. Anyway, it was a cool night and Riffelsyndikatet was a nice new acquaintance to me.

Gunslingers - French freaks freaks out

As Jens from LowCut Magazine writes: "Free Jazz Rock meets Hardcore Post Punk? Krautrock on PCP? Skronk No Wave? Cosmotron - Heavy Italian Stonerstuff

Fuck yes, this is extremely heavy stoner-stuff with a deadly heavy fuzz zound. Supersonic shit for your sorry ears. Ohhh well, my tinnitus is damned loud these days. The other day I could not hear that the air conditioning was on when I was lecturing. And yes, I do teach human physiology if you wonder what the fuck I'm talking about.

Dragontears - New Album ...

The Baby Woodrose side project called Dragontears has just finished the recordings of their second album, entitled Tambourine Freak Machine. The release date is set for for November 17 and it will be available as LP/CD and download. As a teaser it is now possible to listen to the song "Sunrise" on the Bad Afro MySpace.

The album is musically quite similar to the first - 2000 Micrograms From Home from 2007 - but the band used a larger amount of electronics and the eternal quest for hallucinatory experimentation has made the music span a slightly wider range, transcending musical styles like neofolk, psychedelic, space rock and electronica. Hell, it must be the first album in 20 years to include a bona fide drum solo!

Dragontears has a fluent line-up and this time around it includes:

Lorenzo Woodrose - (Baby Woodrose)
Fuzz Daddy - (Baby Woodrose)
The Moody Guru - (Baby Woodrose)
Manoj Ramdas - (ex-Raveonettes, Spektr)
Janine Neble - (Alive with Worms)
The Hobbit - (On Trial, Spids Nøgenhat)
Aron - (Aron, Spids Nøgenhat, ex-On Trial)
Ralph A. Rjeily
The Twilight Princess

The tracklist includes the ten minute drug fantasy “The River,” which involves an impressive eight verses of illuminated spiritual delerium (and is not a Bruce Springsteen cover). Also, another eight verses of righteous anger and loathing in “Masters of War,” which is in fact a Bob Dylan cover. Other highlights are a 16 minute dark hypnotic journey titled “The Freedom Seed,” which features Danish punk diva Janine Neble from Alive with Worms - and the electronic experimental track “Dreamweaver 2,” which features delicately noisy circuit bends from ex-Raveonettes Manoj Ramdas, absolutely molesting an out of date drum machine and some Japanese toy keyboard.

Rock Doc - Heavy Rock in Denmark

Albums, cds, tapes, metal magazines, tickets, ads, poster and much more

Beta Satan - (Drunk) Girls

Although the Danish “alternative” rock scene is mostly very predictable and pretty boring, one gets surprised from time to time. Listening to Beta Satan’s Girls for the first time was one of those nice surprises. Kind of: “Well, there’s still some hope left for the kids”. On the other hand I know that I’m a predictable old ignorant that hates almost anything hyped in the Danish mainstream press. Beta Satan is kind of an all-star band with members from Tiger Tunes and I Am Bones – two bands I have ignored completely! Anyway, this record is really cool aggressive synth driven guitar rock. Lot’s of punky attitude and snotty provocative lyrics. It’s really original, catchy and melodic. I like this a lot and find this record a fresh blow to the whining and boring Danish mainstream so-called rock. If this kind of music is gonna hit the charts and get some serious airplay at the major radio stations, I’ll clap my hands and piss my pants. I would love it if the sorry mainstream indie-kids and confused Volbeat “fans“ would turn their ears towards Beta Satan and went for more experimental rock like this. But hey, let’s put them down instead; don’t let them think they are better than us! Isn’t that what we usually do? It’s not that good! The record gets a bit boring at the end doesn’t it? Well, the Danish press has been full of 3 out of 6 ratings and conform reviews. So let’s get in opposition … it's a 5/5

Rockmaskinen, Gammeltorv, Spild af Tid

Tomorrow we will reunite once again for a special concert at Rockmaskinen. The venue hosted the very first punk gigs in Copenhagen back in late '70s to early '80s. It have been closed down for more than 25 years as an open venue. My old band Spild af Tid have rehearsed something like five times for this great event - in something like five different contallations!?! We have not rehearsed once all five of us present at the same time, so it's gonna be fun tomorrow ...

Other bands will be ADS, Bollocks, IJ-X and Duck Soup. Supposed to be a secret gig for old friends and no advertising. But when the news about ADS being reunited was out lots of people is suddenly interested - off course because of Stig being in D:A:D and Lars was a long time member of Sort Sol. Gonna be strange to see whats gonna happen. We were the anarchists and fuck-ups banck in the day, so nobody except for the real ex-punks care about us - nice!

Crystal Stilts and Repo Man Records

Today I passed Repo Man Records as usual when I biked from work. To my surprise the shop was still open and Troels was there. So I stepped in and had a chat. It's usually closed when I go home, so it was an nice surprise. Another nice surprise was the record spinning. At first I thought it was some Black Angels I hadn't heard before, on the other hand it was a little too mellow. But I liked it and found the record and said "I'll buy this!". Usually I ask about the stuff and has to think twice before I buy something I don't know. I asked Troels about the band afterwards but he didn't know much about the band, he also just liked the music. They are from Brooklyn I know - just like La Otracina ... hmmm, funny coincidence.

Crystal Stilts @ MySpace | Repo Man Records

La Otracina – The Risk of Gravitation

Jesucks! I mean, gee… man – La Otracina is a mind bending hard to cope with complex familiarity. Adam Kriney of the band contacted me through my blog and asked if I wanted to review this new mini-album. And hell yes I wanted to after listening to the songs on their MySpace site. Adam presents them as a stoner-prog/psych band. I would go further and call them a heavy prog-space-freejazz band - or whatever. This record is for sure going to keep your mind occupied for the whole half hour! The music interchanges from amphetamine driven space-jazz to downtempo almost prog-doom into almost polished psych-prog. The record seems to be one long suite with all songs floating in and out of each other. Every new song is a new surprise since they change their style from song to song – well, actually even within many of the songs. What a cool band and what cool music. This is for fans of Zappa as well as Hawkwind as well as Orthodox. http://www.myspace.com/laotracina Colour Sound Recordings
