69 - the book about Ungdomshuset

This book is out today and I bought it on my way home at RepoMan Records. Really cool and there's even a pic of me from the opening back in '82. Quite funny as I also was at the opening of the "new" Ungdomshus some weekends ago now. I'm an old bastard! The opening of the new Ungdomshus was crazy. Met up with other old bastards from Gammeltorv at Floss. Then off to the new house. Thousands of people and we ended high on cryst MDMA. Very strange evening/night and I kind of returned to earth 5 oclock in the morning in the bar talking to some girl, but couldn't get the hang of anything anf finally gave up and got a cap home.

Distortions - Psychic Reverb

Back in June I reviewed Distortions first album and gave it 5 out of 5 and stated that it maybe was gonna be my top album of the year ‘08. Well, now they are back with yet another album!?

The music is the same kind of extremely distorted garage-punk with lots of reverb on the vocal and a heavy bass. So, is there any news from this band, or is it just another spin of the same thing? It for sure is the same spin off, and you for sure will say that you’ve heard it before. But then again, this time the songs are even more twisted and psychedelic grooves are added making the songs freak your mind in another way. It’s not just a raw take on punkish garagerock.

A song with the ambitious name “Radio Hit” shows the band moving into the real acidic territories with an awkwardly catchy ska-punkish riff and a simplistic almost dada guitar solo. This strange kind of soloing is also found in “Night Bar to the Next Girl” where the “solo” is actually a short phrase of a child song. And hey, the song “Urinals” is actually an almost complete rip-off of the ”Transmission” bass-riff with just two chords and the same kind of stroke, but developing into a nightmare of distorted fuzz – astonishingly great crafted and so familiar without actually being a coversong – actually I don’t even think it’s intentional. Strangest song of all must be “Propane 200” which sounds like The Cramps rehearsing high on bad acid after listening to early XTC. I wouldn’t recommend going to sleep listening to this record since it might give you a creeping nightmare. Anyway, this is a brilliant take on really acidic horror-psyche – maybe even genius!?! And of course out on blurry green vinyl – what else?!

Article about Gammeltorv 81 and the concert

There's an article by Morten Vammen i today's Information called Subkulturens Blekingegadebande. You ned a subscrption to read it online, which is fucked and not very "socialistic". Anyway, I'll steal the shit later today since my girlfriend is a weekend subscriber - maybe she's kind of a weekend subversive woman ;-)

EDIT: It's now public, no need for subscription. And btw, the article is about a group of former punks that gathered at Gammeltorv in downtown Copenhagen and a recent concert held at Rockmaskinen at Christiania. Rockmaskinen was one of the very first venues for punk and alternative music - read more ...

Anyway, it's actually the only Danish Newspaper worth reading - and yes, it's darn red.

It's come to my knowledge that this great epic series from the Godgiven hand of Moebius is out in a new colouring. And what a shame! The new stuff looks like shit - all shiny and glittering. But judge for yourself as there's lot's of sites buzzing about this.

Best pictures for comparison is found here >>

From Hell

This great grafic novel is out on the Danish label Faraos Cigarer. This story is probably best know because of the movie starring Johnny Depp. But this is the real thing written by Allan Moore and illustrated by Eddie Campbell.

Causa Sui at the Movies

Denmarks - without doubt - best psyche/kraut-rock band will be featured on film by Beofilm. The hour long movie will be a collage and story about the band and glimts of live performance, studio recordings and just the usual, usual "being in a band" stuff. Gonna be interesting, especially if theres some cool footage from the Duna Jam concerts.

And just to stay with these guys ... They played a great opening set for Witchcraft this last saturday at Loppen arranged by Doomed Denmark (who else?!). Really groovy psyched free jazz. Off course Witchcraft were the main act, and that concert was indeed mindblowing. Yes, I was stoned because of Don K's pot from Jutland, but the riffing was excellent and the pretty-boy vocal melted my soul.

There's a lot of cool pictures at Jacob Dinesens website - right here >> and here >>

I Want Your Skull ... mmmmkay ... !?

Heh, heh, a website and magazine about all kind of skull-art. Imagine! Well, I found this because I was doing a search for John Dyer Baizley of Baroness who is a pretty okay artist - well, very pretty okay so to say. Or whatever - just look at the grafics and enjoy. I ordered the magazine right away.

Some News from the Desert

Spindrift released a vinyl only EP and one of their songs were chosen for Hellride. Really nice news. Love this band playing psychedelic spaghetti western rock.
