Collective Motion of Moshers at Heavy Metal Concerts

Human collective behavior can vary from calm to panicked depending on social context. Using videos publicly available online, we study the highly energized collective motion of attendees at heavy metal concerts. We find these extreme social gatherings generate similarly extreme behaviors: a disordered gas-like state called a mosh pit and an ordered vortex-like state called a circle pit. Both phenomena are reproduced in flocking simulations demonstrating that human collective behavior is consistent with the predictions of simplified models.

Glen Trosch from Psychedelic Art Exchange

Psychedelic Art Exchange

Well, I've been away from this blog for a while - who cares anyway?!?

Bought a lot of music, went to some cool gigs, did some drugs - you know, the same old, same old. And btw also got a new girlfriend - again!

If I get the time I'll maybe write about the cool festival Endless Gratitude, Motörhead at Den Grå Hal - coolest venue for them in DK, La Otracina and Psychewalks of Eternal Karma. And other stuff, I have a shitload of downloaded pix to make me remember.

Also bought this silly thing. Fucking expensive and costed a lot in postage from Australia - and then the Danish costidy made me pay extra tax for it. But I love - it's so cool. My friend Nils bought one in Amsterdam after Roadburn, but online I only forund it down under ...

TONA left a comment - what about you?

TONA - GRAFIT [1000] myspace.com/labeled_video

Some dude from TONA left a comment about Heavy Metal 1981. Not many do so?! It's quite strange to know that somebody actually do read this blog. And to be honest, therefore this blog mainly serve as a pinboard for me to keep track of different stuff and links i dig up around the net. You are also welcome to contact me. Earthling Society did so and also La Otracina - two brilliant bands. I love new stuff - you know ;-)

The scary truth about America ...

This dude made a mathematical approach to define a Top 20 of records sold in the U.S. The result is scary! There's a spreadsheet for download where one can see all data. Even though great rock albums is ranked high it's scary to see that americans buy so many records with shit like Shania Twain, Gart Brooks, Kid Rock and MC Hammer. Anyway, interesting data ...

Lost momentum

I've completely lost monentum in here. But hey, I have no idea if anybody reads anyway. The reason is primarely that LowCut Magazine is up and running again. Now in a regular update and not as the monthly magazine as before. So at least record reviews are over there - and I had quite a stack lying around so I'm stll trying to catch up on that. Should write some short reviews about gigs over here, but hey ...

Ska, ska, skanking ...

I haven't been to a real ska concert since The Selecter at Loppen in '99 or something - well, maybe Duck Soup/ Napoleon Solo a couple of times ... Fuck it! What I wanna say is, that last night we went to see The Slackers at something called at some place next to Kapelvej Medborgerhus. Didn't have a clue about the place nor the band. The venue turned out to be really great for a place not meant for concerts, the band also turned out to be great, and there was a lot of people ...? Pretty surprising in many ways. The Slackers seems to be a kind of legendary ska band out of New York, and there they were - right in the middle of Nørrebro. The performed really cool, seemed happy and played a couple of encores. After that we went to Bumzen - that was in some way pretty bizarre ...

Some stuff for your pleasure ...

First of all LowCut #45 is finally online - it only took us 5 month!?? Anyway, it's a long story why, but the good news are, that we will continue with a new design and on-the-fly updating. So stay tuned ...

Secondly I just stumpled over a video of "De Skrigende Halse". It's from an ironic documentury movie about a danish punkband directed by Søren Fauli and with well known danish actors like Thomas Bo Larsen, Søren Pilmark and Sofie Gråbøl. There's also a soundtrack called: "Testament for Ronni" with all their great post-punk depressed songs. The movie became a cult phenomenon in no time and the band actually appeared at Roskilde Festival in 1996 fronted by 13.000 crazy people at the Yellow Stage! It's a keeper ...

In the beginning ...

Okay, this is the beginning of my blog and I don't have a clue how to start out. The idea is to create a space for fast updated references to music I like. I'm a reviewer for the on-line magazine LowCut and this is gonna be my personal fast-written babbles about anything related to psyched-out music culture. I'll put up some selected reviews from LowCut magazine and try to write about anythig new and interesting I can dig up.

If you want anything reviewed or just have some attention don't hesitate to contact me. I love to hear strange new bands and love demo stuff!

I also fool around with Photoshop dooing some flyers and posters for bands and bookers. I'll post some of the better looking ones for your pleasure ;-)

I dig stonerrock the most, but also adore anything related to the term psychedelia ...
