Dragontears – Turn On Tune In Fuck Off!!

This record is the last outing in the trilogy from Dragontears. At first listen this record sounds much more rocking and less acidic than the previous two - but that's just a scam.

The record do start out with the song "Two Tongue Talk" which could have been a song from the Baby Woodrose catalogue with added psychedelic effects en mass and almost excessive use of theremin. Next track "No Salvation" continues in the rocking way and may probably be the closest Dragontears will ever get to an actual radio friendly hit. The song is so darn funky and swinging it could freak out a dance floor. Besides having hit quality there's also some of the records greatest acidic guitar work and phenomenally cool female background vocals by Emma Acs. After this rocking start it's time for the slow and semi acoustic ballad "Myfriend" - a melancholic tale about friendship and ... well, life in general?! And then … well, let the chemicals kick in. "Time of No Time" is a musical trip of dimensions. It's a matrix of swirling sounds and vocals and the slightly salted tears do incept your cortex. This song is without doubt one that shows off the blueprint of what this collective is all about. "William" is the only really extended track on this record and complete with all the lysergic effects one could want - and expect! The song has a nice slow groove and a steady almost tribal drum beat that gives it the perfect monotonic and hypnotic feel. The strong and well written lyrics are in Danish and tells us a story about the haunted mind of painter William Skotte Olsen. Last track "Mennesketvilling" is another dream catching and surreal song that strongly underlines that this is Dragontears and not just another semi-psychedelic hipster band.

Moshable Magazine

I found this link to Moshable #6 on another blog. Moshable was the magazine that later turned into LowCut Webzine. It's still considered to be a groundbreaking magazine for scandinavian underground music and alternative culture in general. It was led by Simon and Lars, and the staff of writers counted all the danish garage and punk scumbags still around. Lars later founded Bad Afro Records and pushed scandinavian rock to the man.

Serena Maneesh - New Old New Stuff

Emil is back! It's been a while, but there's some new old stuff released. Old songs in new mixes and stuff. Pretty porno and trancy. A new-new limited 7" vinyl EP with other remixes will be out medio november on Bad Afro and the band is recording a new-new-new full length album at the moment.

Dragontears - New Album ...

The Baby Woodrose side project called Dragontears has just finished the recordings of their second album, entitled Tambourine Freak Machine. The release date is set for for November 17 and it will be available as LP/CD and download. As a teaser it is now possible to listen to the song "Sunrise" on the Bad Afro MySpace.

The album is musically quite similar to the first - 2000 Micrograms From Home from 2007 - but the band used a larger amount of electronics and the eternal quest for hallucinatory experimentation has made the music span a slightly wider range, transcending musical styles like neofolk, psychedelic, space rock and electronica. Hell, it must be the first album in 20 years to include a bona fide drum solo!

Dragontears has a fluent line-up and this time around it includes:

Lorenzo Woodrose - (Baby Woodrose)
Fuzz Daddy - (Baby Woodrose)
The Moody Guru - (Baby Woodrose)
Manoj Ramdas - (ex-Raveonettes, Spektr)
Janine Neble - (Alive with Worms)
The Hobbit - (On Trial, Spids Nøgenhat)
Aron - (Aron, Spids Nøgenhat, ex-On Trial)
Ralph A. Rjeily
The Twilight Princess

The tracklist includes the ten minute drug fantasy “The River,” which involves an impressive eight verses of illuminated spiritual delerium (and is not a Bruce Springsteen cover). Also, another eight verses of righteous anger and loathing in “Masters of War,” which is in fact a Bob Dylan cover. Other highlights are a 16 minute dark hypnotic journey titled “The Freedom Seed,” which features Danish punk diva Janine Neble from Alive with Worms - and the electronic experimental track “Dreamweaver 2,” which features delicately noisy circuit bends from ex-Raveonettes Manoj Ramdas, absolutely molesting an out of date drum machine and some Japanese toy keyboard.

The Woodrose familie ...

Thursday night Baby Woodrose is gonna play at Loppen. They released the album "Chasing Rainbows" on Bad Afro Records october 22. and held a really cool release party at Café Sveik. Only problem was, that is was also the first really cold night in Copenhagen and the place was so crowded that I almost froze my dick off hanging outside most of the time. But the Czech beers was great! The record is more back to the basic 60's sound than the previlous album and has a really nice vibe. Baby Woodrose is the mindchild of Lorenzo Woodrose aka Guf who used to be in the freak-machine On Trial back in the day together with bassist Anders. Beside On Trial and Baby Woodrose Lorenzo has also released drug indulged stuff as Pandemonica and Spids Nøgenhat. Anyway, all that you can read about if you google a bit.

So whats the fuzz about a Woodrose family? Well, opening for Baby W tomorrow is Aron. Aron is the solo work of former On Trial guitarist Morten Aron who also played guitar with Spids Nøgenhat. He has released a couple of solo albums and tomorrow is actually the release gig for his new album "Djævlens Horn". On stage tomorrow Aron will be joined by Nicolai Vilhelm Tell and Hobitten who plays guitar in On Trial and freaked with Lorenzo and Aron in the one-off project Dragontears.

Dragontears was all about making an album in short time and record the stuff right away. Kind of a session like Desert Sessions or Swamp Sessions. Everything was mixed by Lorenzo and soundman Ralpf Rjeily on acid (so they said). The record "2000 Micrograms from Home" gained high critcal acclaims and was named as one of the best albums in 2007 by Walter from Roadburn.

Beside all this Lorenzo also produced and played drums in The Setting Son who released the selftitled album earlier this year. The record is recorded at Black Tornado studio by Ralph and is out on Bad Afro Records as well as Baby W, Dragontears and the live record by On Trial.

A live record with On Trial? Yes, after they almost blew the tent out at last years Gutter Island Festival at Masnedø Fort the recording by Danish National Radio was streamed and thereafter circulated in the trading society. On Trial chose to release the recording earlier this year as a vinyl only limited to 500 copies. Gutter Island is an institution in Danish underground music and also Baby Woodrose has put out a "Live at Gutter Island" vinyl only.

To round everything off, also the psyhfolk'ish Nicolay Vilhelm Tell is out with a record called "Mushroom Town" under the name of Nicolai Vilhelm Tell and The Teacompany. Nicolai previously played with Aron and the record is out on the label Orpheus Records which is run by - well, Morten Aron ...

The circle seems to be closed in some way. But hey, Lorenzo also lent his vocal to the project The Freeks by Ruben Romano from Nebula ...
