Loch Ness Marathon

I completed the Loch Ness marathon this sunday and that was a blast. We had been invited by GORE to run the race. Yes, another great trip with my part time job at Marathon Sport - best job ever!
Loch Ness is a great race - but god damn hard for the legs. I was not that well prepared and it was my first marathon since Berlin '97. After the first 12 miles my calfs were cramping and the last 6 km was pure pain and the pace was + 6min/km. I had 1:34 after 13 miles and 3:34 at the finish, so the second half turned out to be the worst.

The route was really challeging for a lowlander as me and I was surprised about how steep the downhill parts were.

The sighting was scenic and the weather was okay. Rain at the beginning but sunny at the end. After the race the real challange was to get back to the hotel and into the bus. I could hardly walk the 1,5 mile. But we ended drinking beers in the bus and headed back to Edinburgh for our stay at Dalhousie Castle - and what a treat. Great dinner and the next day we enjoyed the spa.

Monday we headed back to Copenhagen and I was almost unable to walk till today...
Anyway, as I should I also visited some cool record shops in Edingburgh the friday we arrived and bought some 7" as souvenirs. The shops were Avalanche Records and Unknown Pleasures. I also headed for Vinyl Villains saturday morning but the were not open...

Something completely different ...

In case you didn't know I'm an exercise physiologist and a former competitive distance runner - now I'm just an occasional, or maybe just an accidental runner ;-)
Anyway, I gave a speach in Marathon Sport about what and when to eat before a marathon run. That's where I work part time beside teaching physioterapeuts and there's an article in the national newspaper Politiken about that. It's in danish, but anyway here you go ...

I was really fascinated by the brides in Portland as we ran a tour by the river. Two rounds of about 4 km and underwent most of the bridges, crossed two of the on each round and therefore saw them from many angles. I was therfore pleased to find this site specialised in photos of them nice bridges. Take a trip here >>

Hood to Coast Relay - The Mother ...

I'm goint to run the Hood to Coast Relay in Portland, Oregon in two weeks. It's gonna be fucking great. 317 km starting at Mt. Hood and ending in Seaside at the coast. Our Marathon Sport team is being sponsered by Nike Denmark and we will stay for a whole week at Hotel Lucia in Portland. I have already tried to find some concerts at venues in Portland and some cool record shops using Jack Endino's guide to the north west.

I've been 8 days at fucking La Santa Club at Lanzarote with my work at Marathon Sport. The landscape was pretty astonishing with strange lava formations everywhere. Kind of spanish desert feel most of the places. Lots of cactuses - actually there's almost no vegetation besides cactuses and palms. The island looks like a foreign planet. The place in itself was complete tourist crap. It's a sports vacation place, so you can train any kind of sport you wish. Nice to run on the ridges of the lava hills and do some biking, both road and mountain.
Now I have the flu - fuck it!
Good stuff: Weather, free food, San Miguel, landscapes, training, fun and most of all - Anne Marie ...
Bad stuff: A lot, but especially the La Santa song: » Hør/download her
