Berlin is fucking great - day 3

Sunday was the day of Motorpsycho! But first of all we were off to see the Dalí Exhibition. The weather was fucking cold, but who cares anyway! The exhibition was quite small but had some really cool items. Not the usual, usual stuff you’ve seen a million times but a lot of illustrations for cool books like Don Quixote and Don Juan. After this great experience we walked down to Brandenburger Tor and from there to Checkpoint Charlie. After that we had to go to Starbucks. This part of Berlin sucks big-time and we were really tired of watching any more stuff concerning the damn wall in a historical, and not least, political perspective!

After getting back we ate at some nice small pakistanian restaurant and headed home and bought some bears to bring back to the hostel and drink before it was showtime. The doors were to open at 8 and concert start was set to 9. So we kind of rushed off again just to see a queue outside the venue. But hey, it's Berlin and there was a bar on the same corner where we hang out for a beer. Anyway, we went in to see the place and get acquainted with everything. Damn cool place I have to say. Perfectly shaped room for concerts and a long bar at the back. There was also a cool lounge out back with smoking permission. We met Norwegian Anders who told us they were gonna hit the stage at 9.30 so we hung out in the lounge drinking more beers.

And then it was finally time! Wow, the room was boiling and the atmosphere was so nice. Some cool dude handed me a joint and that liftet everything even higher. The sound was perfect and the band just jammed along for 1,5 hours. After a short break they came back for an encore of maybe 20 min of “Little Lucid Moments” and after another break the came back in again. Some sang “Happy Birthday” for Bent Sæther and he told his friend had just died, so they would play ” The Golden Core” to honor his memory. That was very strong as the song got a much deeper meaning and more impact. Great show all the way and 145 min in all – great, I was amazed!

We went back to the bar Zur Fetten Ecke and had some beers and drinks before heading back to bed. Great day…

Danish Shoegaze

"Echoes and silhouettes from the past. drift through the desert like unknown shadows. out here there's the most evil melody. and it keeps the most beautiful tone. come sing with the lonesome wolf. fly with the high flying bird. live with nature's secrets. where the dust runs cool through the wilderness. where the wind strikes your lucky tears. where time and place grow thin. like a cigarette burnin' to the ground. the road will lead you to the west. if you follow silence and beauty. it's where there's nothing to explain"

Berlin is fucking great - 02

We had breakfast at the übercool café Cream down the street and then we walked Kreuzberg for many hours. We saw interesting galleries like La Catrina and some not so cool record shops nearby. Then we followed Görlitzer Park to Weiner str. and Oranien str. and visited Core TEX – a heaven for punks and their like and saw clubs like Wild at Heart and SO36. After visiting several shops we had coffee at Café Luzia.

After the coffee break we went to the Ramones Museum because we would like to see that, but also because Jay Reatard was gonna play a solo show. Jay’s new rhythm group is the dudes from Danish band Cola Freaks so I said hi to Anders and we watched the show. After that we hang out for a couple of beers and decided to walk up to Zapata and see what that was all about.

God damn, Zapata is the most amazing alternative place I’ve ever witnessed. Complete overdrive of artists making great sculptures and paintings. We could have stared at all this great art for hours if it wasn’t so fucking cold. We had a beer and chili con carne at Studio 54 and after that we went home for a short nap. The plan was to see Jay Reatard again with band at White Trash Fast Food. Anders had told us they were gonna play at 12.30 for some Halloween bash.

I guess we were overtired so we just overslept and woke up at 01 in the morning completely confused. But hey, we had not come to sleep the night away, so we got up and went to Halloween party at Wild at Heart. Crazy night with punk’a’billys all dressed up and old punk hits from the speakers. After some beers and tequilas we woke up and had a cool night…

The Graviators - Back To The Sabbath

"This autumn`s heaviest release is soon to be unleashed! The debut album from Sweden`s THE GRAVIATORS lurks in the abysmal shadows. Heavy, groovy 70´s occult doom/hard rock in the fine tradition of PENTAGRAM. See for yourself and prepare to be blown away." - Transubstans

Berlin is fucking great - 01

Actually, this trip is all about Motorpsycho playing at Lido sunday, nov 1st, but...

We went down to Berlin for on friday and freaked around like fucking tourists the first day. But it was so great to see the Helmut Newton exhibition - and finally see Sumo for real. We also visited the Zoo but that was kind of shit as the animals seemed quite stressed and retarded. We had a great room at Die fabrik and went see the Kreuzberg neighborhood and the night we spent at some decadent cocktail bar called Heinz Minki listening to Marlene Dietrich and other 40's jazz standards.

Shrooms again

Introduction - Santa sets sail for Saturn

Have you ever had the experience of waking up from a dream hearing the most intriguing music ever? Well, I have - several times. But then again, was it just a dream? Now, the last week I have been awake and heard this most intriguing music when awake - but it feels like I'm dreaming.

The music is played by the magnificent Swedish band Introduction. A modern band playing music almost forgotten and for sure underestimated by the modern consciousness. This is prog-rock in the absolute best way. A blend of Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Black Sabbath. All vortexed and blended into a soft musical minestrone perfectly spiced and tiggeling your inner senses like a mix of ice cream, ginger and chili peppers.

Introduction delivers the perfect blend of all the musical inspirations one ever wanted. It's so delightful that you just lie down on your back and say "yaaaahhhhhhh, I dig it"

Christian Finne - Psychonaut

I recently saw the new movie by Morten Vammen called "De Grænseløse" about all kinds of Danish borderline freaks. Quite cool. There's even a very short clip from of me from the Throbbing Gristle concert at the National Gallery. Anyway, the even more cool dude is the artist Christian Finne who talked about doing shrooms and painting psyched out pictures. What a crazy acidhead doing like 5 g of shrooms and dissapearing into the world of colours.

Moshable Magazine

I found this link to Moshable #6 on another blog. Moshable was the magazine that later turned into LowCut Webzine. It's still considered to be a groundbreaking magazine for scandinavian underground music and alternative culture in general. It was led by Simon and Lars, and the staff of writers counted all the danish garage and punk scumbags still around. Lars later founded Bad Afro Records and pushed scandinavian rock to the man.

Penny Ikinger - Fragile

Aussie noise darling Penny Ikinger is out with a 3 track EP teaser for her next album “Penelope”. Last time around Simon here at LowCut almost wet his pants – and yes, she is a darling.

First track “Fragile” starts out like a sweet pop song and then it’s topped by a beautiful dirty guitar solo, damn well done. Next track “Memories Remain” is a slow noise drenched duet with cool slide and vocal duties is shared with Ron Peno. Last track of this EP is a daring one! Although she’s been compared with Nico it takes some big balls to actually cover “All Tomorrows Parties”. But she do well, actually after four spins of this track I’ll say that she do what almost no other woman may be capable of! I also like the cool effect of adding sitar to the laid back and controlled noise inferno. What a tease …
