Wooden Shjips and Dungen - Videos

Another video of Wooden Shjips. This time from the excellent concert at Loppen June 1st. That was a magnificien night and opposite to the show at Debaser we smoked and drank...

This is a video of Dungen also from Loppen and from Marts this year. That was also a magnificient night.

Both videos were recorded by some guy called Thomas Rump and both shows had projections by Sebastian aka FlowerShower. He makes so cool effects and it's an extra pleasure to see the shows. These shows are almost always booked by Ralph from Gearbox Agency.

Electric Wizard - Loppen, 31/08/09

Monday night at Loppen isn’t usually the best day for neither bands nor bookers. Anyway, Nils of Doomed Denmark had taken the chance and booked mighty Electric Wizard – and the fanatics came for the dark sabbath. I guess there was a decent crowd of maybe 300 people ready to be slayed by the riffs.

First band this evening was Rise Above label mates Blood Ceremony. The band is most well described as a mix of 70s hard rock and heavy prog-rock with references to Pentagram as well as Jethro Tull and with a distinct female singer. The bands self titled LP has had lots of critical acclaim.

This night the band showed their muscles as a live band – and they did well. The interplay between guitar and flute was excellent and also Alia O'Brien’s singing and keyboard play lifted the band high up. What was maybe even more impressive was the massive sound on stage. The rhythm group gave the band a rock hard bottom feel and the complex rhythm shifts really came to their rights. All the songs from the record were more heavy and doomier and a lot of people in the crowd seemed pleasantly surprised. The band even played a couple of new songs that sounded very promising for a future release of a new record.

And then after maybe half an hour it was time for The Wizard! The front of the stage was packed and everybody seemed exited. Electric Wizard is the band when it comes to doom. They were not the first doom band and they may not have put out a superb record in quite some years – but they are without doubt the greatest and the most essential band of the genre. Maybe it’s simply because Electric Wizard’s main man Jus Oborn has the ability to combine simple riffing with almost genius choice of melody.

The band started out with “Witchcult Today” and to me the sound was a bit shitty at first!? Maybe the vocal was a bit too high in the mix and the guitars too low. Anyway, it all changed dramatically when the band continued and everything started to peak in a magnificent evil version of “Satanic Rites of Drugula”. The sound had reached the perfect the perfect mix of sludgy heaviness and hypnotic monotony dragging people into trance. The dark ceremony ended with a long epic version of the evergreen “Funeralopolis” hailed by the disciples. One hour of the most intriguing doom ever on an unholy monday night …

3 new flyers for Doomed Denmark

Here's three new flyers for Doomed Denmark and how shitty Paint works. Had to clip them together in Paint cause I haven't got PS installed on this new PC yet. Anyway, this is some cool bookings once again from the heavy hands of Bongz.

Dungen at Loppen

It's always nice to go see Dungen - or maybe I have to say "It was nice ..." in the future?! Anyway, after a cool afternoon with a visit at Sabrines meeting with Tina, it was time to go to Loppen once again. There was quite a lot of people there - and more swedes than usual. I met Nik after the opening act - the new wunderkids The Telstar Sound Drone - and we smoked a spliff. Then Dungen played a long set with some cool jamming and once again Reine Fiske showed he's completely extrordinaire ...

Here's a clip from Roskilde 2005 and they will be back in 2009 - maybe for the last time? By all means I cannot strongly enough recommend you go see the if the come by!

Crystal Stilts and LowCut Radio on a sunday nite

Last night I had the pleasure of being the host with Jens at the LowCut Radio. It’s been down for a while because some stupid technician had to fix something and instead he fucked it up. Jens had to leave after 1,5 hours to go see Cheap Time at Elværket and the guys from Det Knuste Øre had a show with Borbetomagus at Lygten, so I enjoyed myself for two hours and then went over to Loppen to see Crystal Stilts. The concert was quite cool, but far from fantastic! I had expected something more dark and gazing and instead there was this indie looking dude trying to be funny and playing way too loud keyboard. Not that it was a bad show; I was just disappointed in some way. A few songs worked really well being hypnotic and monotonous just the way I wanted. Well, after a Friday with more intense shoegaze at Drone and a really drunk night at Studenterhuset with On Trial doing their best to psyche us out sunday night wasn’t just the day for me to see Crystal Stilts. Oh, I almost forgot, their female drummer Frankie was nice – and did some cool simple drumming.

Crystal Antlers Freak Show

Wow, what a thursday night. I left late and were completely sober when I arrived for the last two songs by The Good, The Bad. They had improved for sure delivering some stoned out garage surf. Quite cool, but not what I had come for. No, I came for the Californian freak outs Crystal Antlers. Now could they live up to my expectations? Ohhh, yes! They delivered one of the most acidious freak out show in a long time. Damn, psychedelic music IS the best ... Crystal Antlers The Good, The Bad Loppen

LIFE ON EARTH! | Live at Loppen

Just got some pix from the concert with Swedish psych-folk band Life on Earth! october 25th at Loppen. Wow, that was a great night. Not many people showed up which was a pity. Opening band was the Danish acid-folk band Delhi Metro with some of the members from former Hjerterka'se. When I arrived I popped 25 liberty caps and soon my head was spinning nicely. Ralph the booker had hired a great guy to do visuals and behind the stage and all the way round was a stretched out screen and four projecters delivered a great psychedelic mindblow. Life on Earth! is Mattias Gustavsson’s (from the Swedish band Dungen) solo project together with some other Swedish freaks (musicians from Dungen, The Works, Town & Country and Mia Doi Todd). Because there was so few people, I could sit on a chair right in front of the soundboard and just enjoy the whole thing high on psilicybine. Great experience ... I really recommend that you give the bands a listen.
